Merrill Boys’ Baseball Team Wins Regional Title

In a game heard on Bluejay 96.3 Wednesday night, the Merrill Bluejay Boys’ Baseball team captured the Division 2 regional title by defeating the Abbotsford-Colby Falcons 6-4 at Red Aarow Park in Abbotsford.

The Bluejays gave up a single run in the bottom of the first inning on a walk, throwing error on a pickoff play, a stolen base, and a wild pitch by junior Bluejay starter E. J. Weix before scoring four runs in the second inning and two in the third inning.  The second inning highlights included an RBI by catcher Caiden Henrich on a single and right fielder Kory Page on a walk followed by a two RBI double by left fielder Brady Norton.  In the third inning, first baseman Brady Kanitz scored on a wild pitch and Henrich on Page’s RBI single.

The Falcons scored two in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-3 and a single tally in the fifth to make the score 6-4 before Weix was relieved by Dawson Schulz.  Schultz gave way in the sixth to Isaak Clapper, who got the final four outs of the game for his second save in as many days to preserve the Bluejay victory.

The Bluejays begin sectional semi-final action Tuesday morning with the first game against Medford, with the pre-game show from Baldwin-Woodville High School beginning at 9:45 and first pitch at 10:00.  That game will be heard on Bluejay 96.3.  If the Bluejays win the first game, they will play the sectional final game at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, with the pre-game show beginning at 3:45, with Downtown Ollie Burrows bringing you all the action on Bluejay 96.3.

The winner of the Sectional Finals will go to play in the WIAA State Tournament Semi-Finals on June 12th.
